Family Health Insurance Illinois 2026
Coverage for every member of your household—from newborns to young adults staying on your plan through age 26.
Covering Your Entire Household

Household health coverage in 2026 provides comprehensive protection for every member—from pediatric care for children to preventive services for adults. Through Get Covered Illinois, the state marketplace, you can access plans with built-in pediatric benefits, maternity coverage, and premium subsidies based on income.
⚠️ 2026 Subsidy Changes Affecting Households
Enhanced subsidies expired December 31, 2025. Premium assistance is now limited to households earning below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level. A household of four earning over $128,600 no longer qualifies for marketplace subsidies.
The right coverage approach depends on your situation, ages, and healthcare needs. Some benefit from unified plans covering everyone, while others save money by combining marketplace coverage for adults with All Kids (the state CHIP program) for children. We help you analyze both options to find the most cost-effective solution.

Pediatric Benefits: What’s Included

All marketplace plans include essential pediatric benefits as required by the Affordable Care Act. These aren’t optional add-ons—they’re built into every qualified health plan, ensuring children receive comprehensive care from birth through age 18.
Pediatric Dental
Routine cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings, and orthodontic evaluations. Covered as an essential health benefit for children under 19.
Pediatric Vision
Annual eye exams, prescription glasses or contacts, and vision screening. Essential coverage ensuring children’s visual health and school readiness.
Well-Child Visits
Preventive checkups at recommended intervals, developmental screenings, and growth monitoring—covered at 100% with no cost-sharing.
Immunizations
All recommended childhood vaccines covered as preventive care with no out-of-pocket cost, including school-required immunizations.
Adult Children Through Age 26
Young adults can remain on a parent’s plan until they turn 26, regardless of student status, employment, marital status, or whether they live with parents. This provision applies to all marketplace plans and provides continuous coverage during the transition to adulthood. After age 26, young adults need their own coverage—we help with that transition too.
All Kids: Low-Cost Coverage for Children
The All Kids program provides comprehensive coverage for children in households earning too much for Medicaid but finding private coverage unaffordable. This state-administered program covers children through age 18 with benefits rivaling or exceeding private insurance.
All Kids Eligibility for 2026
Eligibility depends on income relative to the Federal Poverty Level. Many moderate-income residents qualify for low or no-cost children’s coverage.
All Kids Benefits Include
| Benefit Category | Coverage | Cost-Sharing |
|---|---|---|
| Doctor Visits | Unlimited office visits, specialists | $0–$5 copay |
| Hospital Care | Inpatient, outpatient, emergency | Low or no cost |
| Prescriptions | Generic and brand medications | $0–$3 copay |
| Dental Care | Cleanings, fillings, orthodontics | Included |
| Vision Care | Exams, glasses, contacts | Included |
| Mental Health | Counseling, therapy, psychiatric care | Covered |
Many combine All Kids coverage for children with marketplace plans for adults. This hybrid approach can reduce total costs compared to enrolling everyone in one marketplace plan. We analyze both scenarios to identify your optimal setup.

Plans covering multiple members have two deductible types that work together: individual embedded deductibles and aggregate deductibles. Understanding how these interact prevents unexpected costs when members need care.
Silver Plan Example for 2026
Embedded vs. Aggregate: What’s the Difference?
Embedded deductibles mean no single member pays more than the individual limit before insurance kicks in. In the example above, once one person hits $3,000, their coverage begins—even if the combined total hasn’t reached $6,000.
Aggregate-only deductibles (less common) require the combined total to be met before anyone’s coverage begins. This can create problems if one member needs expensive care early in the year.
We help you identify plans with embedded deductibles that protect against one member bearing disproportionate costs. For more on plan cost structures, see our affordability guide.
Coverage by Life Stage

Coverage priorities shift as members age. Understanding these changes helps you select plans that grow with your needs.
Newborns & Young Children
Focus on pediatric networks, well-child visit frequency, and immunization coverage. Consider plans with low copays for frequent doctor visits during early years.
School-Age Children
Ensure coverage for sports physicals, vision exams, and mental health services. Dental coverage becomes increasingly important as permanent teeth develop.
Teens & Young Adults
Mental health services, reproductive care, and transition planning for aging off parent’s plan at 26. Consider behavioral health network quality.
Parents & Caregivers
Balance preventive care needs with chronic condition management. PPO plans offer flexibility for multiple provider relationships across different members.
Maternity Coverage
All marketplace plans include maternity and newborn care as essential health benefits. This covers prenatal visits, delivery (vaginal or cesarean), and postpartum care. Newborns are automatically covered from birth—you have 60 days to formally add them to your plan. If you’re expecting, verify your plan’s maternity network includes your preferred providers.
Plan for Your Coverage Future
Whether you’re expecting a new addition, have children aging off your plan, or need to coordinate coverage across generations, we help you plan ahead and avoid gaps.
